How different are envelope generators?

Hey everyone. I'm currently planning on paper my first Eurorack. I already have a few modules and while drawing the whole layout, my approach was to have:

• 4 osc with one filter each, plus one EG per filter.
• A quad mixer to combine everything.
• Lastly a quad VCA.
  

Oscillators and filter have a wide range of different timbres. There are all kinds of synthesis and known filters, but what about EGs? Do they sound different from each other or are they mostly the same?
