Keep OB6, or sell to help fund P10?

Ive had the OB6 for about 6 months and its cool, i enjoy the filter alot. The effects are so-so, i love the stereo outs and pan spreading.

I JUST scored a JX8P with PG 800 controller last week, and even though its apples to oranges, i think i can say i enjoy playing and hearing it MORE than the OB6.

Firstly, despite not having any active panning, it sounds so wide, especially with the Roland chorus (much nicer than the OB6 chorus imho) Also it seems to have quite alot more bottom end and midrange, but lays in a mix just effortlessly!

I read something recently about an artist complaining how the OB6 can sound great in studio, but often doesn’t cut through in a live scenario. I concur that it seems the OB6 has a more scooped and thin sound. I think sometimes it’s ultra brightness and fizzy upper end are lost on me and unappreciated. These aspects became obvious to me quickly after hearing both the JX8P and OB competing for space in the jams and mixes ive made since owning both.

So anywayyyyy, do you think that a Prophet 10 being a modern synth might also suffer being to scooped and thin in a mix? I feel a little more at home with its more limited cross mod and lack of effects, but ive never actually played one to know if the tone would grip me. The only bummer to me is that its mono.

Thoughts?

submitted by /u/trasssssh1
[link] [comments]
