I need help figuring out the workflow in my homestudio

Hi, I have a few newbie questions regarding how to set up my home studio (I'm on windows btw): I was wondering how my home studio would work if i wanted to use a Korg Minilogue XD as a midi controller for my DAW (studio one) AND also to record it as well, I was also wondering if I connect some monitors to my interface (Scarlett 2i2 3rd generation, planning to upgrade to ssl2+) would I be able to listen to the playback of the synth without having to fire up my DAW, and I have also heard that if I want to expand the inputs of my interface ( since i have a mic connected to the first preamp and an hx stomp to record guitar and I don't wanna use it as my main interface) that I should get a small mixer, but I don't understand why or how to operate it and implement it to expand my ports.
