USB direct box vs. audio interface

Does anyone have any experience running a USB direct box, for example a Mackie MDB-USB, versus an audio interface? I had been running out to an audio interface (M-Audio Fast Track Pro) from the computer and midi controller, to the mixer, but was considering using a USB direct box instead. Has anyone made this change? Your experience? TIA.
